Fue fundada en 1802 por un grupo de hombres de negocios de
Manchester, para funcionar como biblioteca y sala de prensa y fue construido en
el estilo griego por Thomas Harrison entre 1802 y 1806.
El Primer Secretario de la biblioteca fue Peter Mark Roget,
que escribió parte de su tesoro allí. Hoy la biblioteca está situada en la primera
planta, mientras que la planta baja está ocupada por un bar.
It was founded in 1802
by a group of Manchester businessmen, to function as a library and newsroom,
and was built in the Greek Revival style
by Thomas Harrison between 1802 and 1806. The library’s first secretary was
Peter Mark Roget, who wrote part of his thesaurus there. Today the library has
moved to the first floor, while the ground floor is occupied by a pub.
